Areas We Cover
Choice Finishes Ltd (company no. 16302919) works across Barnet from our base in East Finchley, N2. We bring specialist interior finishes and lime work together with the practical plastering, skimming and repairs that turn a renovation into a finished home.
Project Media
The photographs show work at the identified London projects. They illustrate our capabilities and are not presented as Barnet project photographs.

Our coverage includes High Barnet, New Barnet, East Barnet, Whetstone, Totteridge and Friern Barnet. Period cottages and conservation-area homes around High Barnet sit alongside larger 1930s and post-war family houses elsewhere in the area. Those buildings can contain several generations of repairs, extensions and wall finishes. Before deciding what to replace or cover, we look at which surfaces are sound, which need further investigation and how the proposed work fits into the rest of the refurbishment.
Polished and metallic plaster can introduce a deliberate change of texture to a reception room, stairwell or new extension. A premium finish does not remove the need for careful construction underneath it. We discuss the background, junctions and lighting as part of the decorative specification, rather than choosing a colour in isolation. Physical samples give a useful basis for comparing a soft mineral appearance with a more reflective surface. These decorative systems are specified for interiors.
In older cottages and traditional solid-wall houses, lime plastering may be more suitable than an unrelated modern patch. We consider the existing mortar and plaster, the condition of the wall and the way moisture is being managed. Sound material does not automatically need to come off simply because a room is being redecorated. Traditional plastering can form part of a repair-led specification, with the interfaces between historic walls and later alterations resolved before the final coats.
Much of a family-house refurbishment is straightforward in appearance but depends on preparation. General plastering and skimming may involve making good after rewiring, repairing ceiling damage or bringing new partitions into line with retained walls. We agree which surfaces are included and what needs to happen before plastering starts. If cracks suggest continuing movement or staining points to a leak, those causes need attention first. Plaster is a finish, not a substitute for solving a building defect.
For occupied houses, we discuss room access, protection of retained finishes and coordination with other trades. Share plans and photographs, and explain whether you need a single-room repair, an extension or a wider renovation. A quotation follows an agreed scope, not an assumed price or programme.
Our service priorities start with decorative and lime finishes, supported by the background and repair work they need.
Hand-applied interior finishes selected through discussion of samples, light and the character of the room.
Assessment of traditional backgrounds and compatible repairs for older homes, rather than automatic replacement.
Skimming and re-plastering for family-house renovations, alterations and making good after building services work.
Supporting repairs to retained cornices, using surviving detail to establish the profile and finish.
Render work considered against the condition and construction of the external wall.
Waterproofing advice and installation for below-ground spaces after investigation of the relevant conditions.
