    Plastering for Buckinghamshire's period homes

Buckinghamshire has some of the best-preserved historic towns within reach of London. Amersham Old Town and Beaconsfield Old Town are both conservation areas, with timber-framed buildings, Georgian brick frontages and former coaching inns lining their high streets. Marlow's Georgian high street and Thames-side houses, and Chesham's old town, add more listed and locally important buildings. Out in the Chilterns, flint-and-brick cottages, barns and farmhouses are typical.

Almost all of this housing stock was built with lime. Solid brick, flint and timber-framed walls need to breathe, and many have been harmed by later cement render or gypsum plaster trapping moisture. Our heritage work here includes:

    • Lime plastering to solid walls and lath and lime to ceilings and timber partitions
    • External lime render and replacement of failed cement render on period elevations
    • Lime work to timber-framed buildings, keeping infill panels and frames breathable
    • Cornice and ceiling rose restoration in Georgian and Victorian town houses

Gerrards Cross, Beaconsfield's newer roads and parts of Marlow are known for large Edwardian, Arts & Crafts and interwar detached houses, as well as contemporary rebuilds. These projects often call for a different mix: polished plaster and microcement in refurbished interiors, high-quality skimming for new extensions, and basement waterproofing where a lower-ground floor is being added. High Wycombe's Victorian terraces and villas suit traditional plastering, re-skimming and cornice repairs.
