    Application to Final Polish

    Tadelakt is applied in thin, hand-worked coats, then compressed and burnished with Moroccan olive soap. The soap reacts with the lime to seal the surface, making it waterproof without any applied coating.

    Tadelakt is naturally water-resistant and seamless, making it particularly suited to bathrooms, wet rooms and steam rooms where a continuous finish is preferred to tile and grout lines.

    What is Tadelakt?

    Tadelakt is a waterproof lime plaster finish that originates from Morocco, traditionally used to line the walls of hammams and palace interiors. It is applied by hand in thin coats, then compacted and burnished with a smooth river stone before being sealed with black olive soap, which reacts with the lime to create a genuinely waterproof, faintly lustrous surface.

    Unlike tiling, Tadelakt is seamless and joint-free, with soft, undulating colour variation that comes from the hand-polishing process rather than a printed or sprayed texture. Every wall is unique, and the surface only improves with age and use.

    Substrate Preparation

    Preparation of a sound, stable substrate and application of a suitable base render to receive the Tadelakt coats.

    Tadelakt Application

    Hand-application of the lime-based Tadelakt coats, built up and worked into the surface.

    Compacting & Burnishing

    Compacting with a smooth stone to close the surface pores, then burnishing to develop sheen and density.

    Soap-Curing & Sealing

    Traditional black olive soap treatment to react with the lime and achieve a genuinely waterproof, sealed finish.

    Where Tadelakt Is Used

    Tadelakt is especially effective in bathrooms, walk-in showers, wet rooms and steam rooms, where its continuous surface can follow niches, returns and curved walls without introducing grout lines.

    Its soft sheen and natural movement also make it suitable for staircase walls, feature walls and other sculptural interior surfaces where light can reveal the hand-worked finish.
