What is Tadelakt?
Tadelakt is a waterproof lime plaster finish that originates from Morocco, traditionally used to line the walls of hammams and palace interiors. It is applied by hand in thin coats, then compacted and burnished with a smooth river stone before being sealed with black olive soap, which reacts with the lime to create a genuinely waterproof, faintly lustrous surface.
Unlike tiling, Tadelakt is seamless and joint-free, with soft, undulating colour variation that comes from the hand-polishing process rather than a printed or sprayed texture. Every wall is unique, and the surface only improves with age and use.
