Project Media
These are representative examples from the labelled London projects, not evidence of work at a Highgate property.

We cover Highgate Village, Highgate West Hill, the Archway Road area, streets around Highgate Wood and the Crouch End borders. Georgian and Victorian homes, including properties within conservation areas, often retain materials that deserve a measured approach to repair. Original plaster may sit beside later cement patches, plasterboard or gypsum alterations. Understanding those layers is more useful than assuming every surface should receive the same treatment, particularly where original joinery, ceiling details and wall proportions are being kept.
Within renovated interiors, polished and metallic plaster offers a way to introduce a contemporary surface without copying historic ornament. A quieter mineral texture can sit alongside retained timber and stone, while a reflective or metallic effect makes a different statement in controlled light. The choice belongs to the room as a whole. We discuss samples, background preparation and junction details before agreeing an interior finish; exterior polished plaster is not part of this service.
For traditional walls and ceilings, lime plastering is often central to a sympathetic specification. Lime-compatible materials can suit solid masonry and retained historic plaster, but vapour permeability is only one consideration. Leaks, salts, ventilation, coatings and the condition of the substrate also affect performance. We assess the background rather than describing lime as a cure for every damp problem. Where listed fabric is involved, the proposed intervention should be reviewed with the appropriate conservation adviser before work begins.
A traditional plastering approach also means judging how much intervention is actually needed. A small damaged section might be repaired into sound neighbouring work, whereas an unstable area needs a different response. General plastering and skimming can be appropriate for modern partitions and later additions within the same property. Separating these backgrounds in the specification helps avoid treating a historic wall as though it were newly installed plasterboard, while still achieving a coherent finish across the rooms.
Cornices and ceiling roses should be assessed before adjacent surfaces are stripped, so surviving profiles can inform the repair. Share photographs, drawings and conservation conditions with us and your appointed team. A similar alteration elsewhere in the street does not establish what is permitted in your home.
Specialist decorative surfaces lead the service, alongside compatible lime work and the practical plastering that supports refurbishment.
Interior finishes developed around sample choices, architectural details and the balance of daylight and artificial light.
Repairs and new lime coats where suitable for traditional walls, lath backgrounds and retained historic fabric.
Smooth finishes and background repairs for suitable modern surfaces and the later additions to period homes.
Secondary specialist work to repair original profiles and ornament, preserving sound detail where possible.
External repair and rendering requirements assessed separately against the wall and exposure.
Below-ground waterproofing specified after assessment, rather than relying on internal plaster to resist water.
