Plasterer Mayfair London
Mayfair packs a remarkable range of buildings between Park Lane, Oxford Street, Regent Street and Piccadilly. Georgian townhouses line Grosvenor Street, Upper Brook Street, Hill Street, Charles Street and Berkeley Square. Maison Estelle: bespoke polished plaster in a Mayfair townhouse
Our best-known Mayfair project is Maison Estelle, a private members' club set within a historic Mayfair townhouse, completed in 2021. The brief called for polished plaster that could stand alongside fine art, antique furniture and bespoke joinery without competing for attention.
We delivered bespoke polished plaster across several of the club's principal rooms, working to a materials and colour specification developed by the interior design team for this project. Each room received its own tone and texture, tailored to its use and lighting: richer, deeper finishes in the more intimate lounges and lighter, more reflective surfaces in rooms designed for daytime use. The system was a bespoke-tinted, Marmorino-type lime plaster, applied in multiple coats, hand-trowelled and burnished to a fine, marble-like sheen and protected with wax.
In a live historic building, protecting what was already there mattered as much as the new finish. We sequenced the work room by room, used bespoke protective screening and dust control suited to a finished, occupied heritage interior, and protected the period cornicing, panelling and fireplaces throughout. Every tone was matched against the designer's physical material samples before any wall was plastered. The full account is in our Maison Estelle case study.
Georgian townhouses and listed buildings
Much of Mayfair's housing stock dates from the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. A high proportion of these buildings are listed, and almost all of Mayfair falls within Westminster City Council's Mayfair Conservation Area. Original lime plaster, lath and lime ceilings and enriched cornices are part of the building's significance, and repairs need to use compatible, breathable materials agreed with the architect and conservation officer, usually as part of listed building consent.
Lime plastering and lath repair
Solid brick walls and timber lath ceilings in Mayfair's Georgian houses were built with lime, and they stay healthiest when repaired with lime. We repair sound original plaster in place rather than stripping it, and where coats have failed we replaster in traditional lime, fixing riven timber lath where the original is beyond repair. On our Lancaster Gate restoration in Bayswater we installed 4,000m² of lime plaster from bare brickwork, with each area cured in sequence so the new work stayed compatible with the retained historic fabric. Cornice restoration and fibrous plaster
Mayfair's principal rooms were designed around deep cornices, ceiling roses, friezes and arches, often damaged by later services, leaks or office partitioning. Our cornice restoration starts from what survives. We take moulds from sound original profiles, cast new sections to match and make them good into the existing work, finishing enrichment by hand after fixing. For larger losses or new ornament, our fibrous plastering team casts bespoke mouldings, arches and panels off site. When houses on Grosvenor Street or Hill Street return from office to residential use, this is often one of the first jobs.
Mansion blocks and apartments
The late Victorian mansion blocks around Mount Street and South Audley Street hold some of Mayfair's most sought-after apartments. We work within building rules and permitted hours, protecting common parts and lifts and keeping noisy preparation to agreed times. Inside, re-skimming sits alongside decorative finishes for halls and reception rooms.
Hotels, restaurants and private clubs
Mayfair's hospitality interiors need finishes that look crafted and survive high footfall. Alongside Maison Estelle, our London hospitality work includes a full Marmorino base with a bespoke smoky distemper wash at The Ivy Market Grill in Covent Garden and an aged artisan finish at Balthazar. For hotel and restaurant fit-outs we agree samples early, work to the main contractor's programme and seal finishes to suit commercial use.
Polished plaster and microcement
Of our polished plasters, Lucido gives the highest polish for bars and feature walls; Marmorino is more forgiving across large areas and ceilings; Tadelakt is the traditional waterproof lime plaster for showers and wet rooms when correctly detailed. Basements and tanking
Lower-ground floors and vaults are valuable space in Mayfair, used for kitchens, spas and cellars, and they only work if they stay dry. Our tanking and waterproofing team installs below-ground systems ahead of any finish; at Lancaster Gate we brought 13 basement vaults back into use with structural waterproofing, render and screed. Because the same team plasters, we can take a basement from waterproofing to finished wall without a gap between trades.
