Our Specialisms
Mayfair is where our polished plaster is best known. At Maison Estelle, a private members' club in a historic Mayfair townhouse, we applied bespoke polished plaster throughout the principal rooms. Around it, the streets of Mount Street, South Audley Street, Brook Street, Dover Street, Albemarle Street and Berkeley Square mix restaurants, hotels, galleries and private clubs with townhouses and apartments. Choice Finishes works with the interior designers, architects and main contractors behind these schemes, applying Venetian plaster, Marmorino, grassello and Tadelakt to walls and ceilings. Venetian Plaster — Lucido
The brief at Maison Estelle was for finishes that could sit alongside fine art, antique furniture and bespoke joinery without competing for attention. Each principal room received a distinct tone and texture, tailored to its use and lighting, using a bespoke-tinted Marmorino-type lime plaster system, hand-burnished and protected with wax. Because this was a live historic building, we sequenced the work room by room, used protective screening and dust control, and protected cornicing, panelling and fireplaces throughout. The full story is in the Maison Estelle case study.
Hospitality interiors put polished plaster to work. Walls are touched, chairs knock against them and lighting changes from lunch to late evening. Our hospitality work in central London shows how we handle that. At The Ivy Market Grill in Covent Garden we applied a full Marmorino base with a bespoke smoky distemper wash for a faded-elegance finish, testing it on full-size sample boards under the venue's own lighting. At Balthazar we created an aged, richly patinated artisan finish across the dining room and bar, varying the application so no two walls read alike. For Mayfair restaurant and hotel fit-outs we bring the same sampling discipline, and we plan our work around programme dates, other trades and handover.
Many Mayfair townhouses are now high-end offices, apartments or mixed-use buildings, often listed. In these, a single finish may need to satisfy both conservation requirements and a demanding design brief. Where original lime plaster survives, we can repair it in lime and then apply a compatible polished finish. For entrance halls and reception rooms, Marmorino gives a calm, stone-like surface; Lucido brings a deeper, more reflective polish to smaller rooms, bars and feature walls; and Spatulata leaves visible trowel marks for a looser, more organic look.
Polished plaster ceilings suit Mayfair's restaurant dining rooms and townhouse stairwells, though they are more demanding than walls because every change in plane shows. In washrooms and spa areas we specify carefully: Tadelakt for showers and wet zones, waxed Venetian plaster or Marmorino for walls away from direct water, and microcement where a seamless contemporary surface is wanted. In commercial washrooms, the waterproofing behind the finish matters as much as the finish itself.
Mayfair projects are often tightly programmed, with restricted access and neighbours to consider. We resource the job to the programme, protect finished work, and agree samples early so that design decisions do not hold up the site. Our wider plastering and heritage work in the area is set out on our Mayfair area page.

Yes. At Maison Estelle each principal room received its own tone and texture, from richer finishes in lounges to lighter, more reflective surfaces in rooms used by day. We sample each colour on site for approval first.
Yes. We sequence work room by room, use protective screening and dust control, and protect existing cornicing, panelling and fireplaces throughout, as we did at Maison Estelle.
