Our Specialisms
Pimlico and Westminster put two quite different kinds of building side by side. Pimlico's Regency and early Victorian stucco terraces run in long, uniform lines around Eccleston Square, Warwick Square and St George's Square, most now divided into flats. Around Smith Square, Lord North Street and Queen Anne's Gate, Westminster has Georgian houses, while Victoria Street and the streets towards St James's Park are lined with hotels, offices, restaurants and mansion blocks. Choice Finishes applies Venetian plaster, Marmorino, grassello and Tadelakt in homes and commercial interiors across both. Explore all our finishes for polished plaster in London.

Venetian Plaster — Lucido
We know Westminster's hotel sector from the inside. At the InterContinental Westminster we were responsible for all aspects of plastering across a 256-room hotel refurbishment, covering guest rooms, corridors and public areas, from large-scale re-skimming through to fine architectural detailing in feature spaces, delivered to a phased handover schedule alongside other trades. That project was traditional and architectural plastering rather than polished plaster, but it is the foundation for any hotel finish: a consistent, well-prepared background and a team resourced to keep pace with the programme. Read more in our InterContinental Westminster case study.
In a hotel lobby, a restaurant or a members' bar, polished plaster gives a surface that feels crafted and changes with the lighting through the day. Our hospitality work includes a full Marmorino base with a bespoke smoky distemper wash at The Ivy Market Grill in Covent Garden, a patinated artisan finish at Balthazar, and bespoke polished plaster in the principal rooms of Maison Estelle in Mayfair. For high-footfall areas we seal finishes to suit commercial use and agree samples early so decisions do not hold up the programme.
Most Pimlico houses have been converted into flats over several floors, and many are listed. Inside, a polished plaster hallway, a Marmorino living room wall or a Tadelakt shower can transform a flat without changing its layout. These buildings were built with lime, so we look at the background first. Where original plaster survives we repair it in lime, and where cornices are damaged our heritage plasterers can restore them before any decorative coat goes on. In shared buildings we protect common parts and work to agreed hours.
Lower-ground flats beneath Pimlico's stucco terraces are often darker and prone to damp. A light, reflective Venetian finish lifts these rooms, but only once the waterproofing is right. As we also carry out tanking, we can advise on the whole build-up rather than just the surface.
For showers and wet rooms we recommend Tadelakt, the traditional waterproof lime plaster, when correctly detailed. Waxed Venetian plaster or Marmorino suits bathroom walls away from direct water, cloakrooms and hotel or restaurant washrooms. Microcement offers a seamless alternative for floors and wet rooms.
Polished plaster ceilings in hotel lobbies and restaurant dining rooms create an immediate sense of quality, though they are more demanding than walls because every change in plane shows. Lucido, the highest-polish Venetian finish, suits reception desks, bars and feature walls; Marmorino is more forgiving across large areas.
Our Pimlico and Westminster area page covers our render matching, lime plastering and basement tanking for the area's listed garden squares.
Yes. We seal finishes for high-footfall commercial use and plan our work to a phased programme. Our hotel experience includes full-scope plastering across the 256-room InterContinental Westminster refurbishment, and our polished plaster hospitality work includes The Ivy Market Grill and Maison Estelle.
Lime-based finishes such as Marmorino and grassello are generally compatible with traditional walls. We repair original plaster in lime where possible, protect period features, and agree the specification with your architect or conservation officer where the building is listed.
Yes. We resource the team to the programme, coordinate with other trades and agree samples early so that design sign-off does not delay the site.
