    Polished Plaster in Fulham

Fulham is a borough of family terraces and river views. Victorian and Edwardian houses fill the streets around Parsons Green, the Peterborough Estate, Hurlingham and Bishops Park, while modern riverside apartments rise at Imperial Wharf, Chelsea Harbour and along the Thames towards Putney Bridge. Choice Finishes applies Venetian plaster, Marmorino, Tadelakt and microcement in both, for homeowners, designers and developers. Explore all our finishes for polished plaster in London.

    Victorian and Edwardian terraces

A typical Fulham terrace renovation involves a side-return or rear extension, a loft conversion and new bathrooms, often all at once. Polished plaster is most often requested in three places: the new kitchen and family room, where a feature wall or a full-room Marmorino gives warmth against the glazing; the hallway and stairs, where burnished lime plaster is harder-wearing than painted plaster; and the main bathroom. Because we are specialist plasterers, we can also handle the skimming, re-skimming and rendering on the rest of the project, so the background is right before the decorative coats go on.

    Riverside apartments

Riverside apartments around Imperial Wharf and Chelsea Harbour are usually contemporary, with large windows, open-plan living and a palette of stone, oak and metal. Here polished plaster and microcement are often used together: microcement for seamless floors and wet rooms, and a smooth Venetian or Marmorino finish on walls. Light reflected off the Thames changes through the day, so we sample on site to check how each sheen reads in your rooms before committing. In new-build apartments we also check that the plasterboard or substrate is suitable and properly prepared.

    A palette tested on site

Getting a plaster tone to sit comfortably beside other materials is mostly a matter of careful sampling. At The Hoxton in Holborn we developed an aged off-white architectural plaster with subtle tonal variation, refining full-scale samples on site until it worked as one palette with the copper leaf detailing nearby. That kind of understated, textured off-white is a popular choice in Fulham kitchens and riverside living rooms. You can see how we worked in our Hoxton case study.

    Bathrooms, showers and wet rooms

Bathrooms are where we are asked the most questions. Tadelakt is the traditional waterproof Moroccan lime plaster, polished with stones and sealed with olive-oil soap, and suits showers and wet rooms when correctly detailed. Venetian plaster and Marmorino are water-resistant once waxed or sealed, which suits cloakrooms, powder rooms and bathroom walls away from direct water, but they are not a substitute for a waterproof finish inside a shower. Microcement is the alternative for a seamless wet room, floor and walls included. Whichever finish you choose, the waterproofing behind it matters as much as the surface.

    Loft rooms and ceilings

Loft conversions in Fulham terraces bring sloping ceilings, dormers and awkward junctions. Polished plaster can follow these planes, with returns, reveals and corners finished by hand. A soft Marmorino on a sloping ceiling gives a principal bedroom an enveloping, calm feel.

    External polished plaster

For garden walls, rear extensions and courtyard spaces, external polished plaster is possible using a breathable, weather-resistant lime-based system over a sound render background. We also carry out external rendering, so we can take responsibility for both. Our Fulham area page covers our wider rendering and plastering work across the borough.

Polished plaster in Fulham: frequently asked questions

Inside a shower we recommend Tadelakt or microcement, both of which can be used in wet zones when correctly detailed. Venetian plaster and Marmorino are water-resistant once waxed and suit bathroom walls away from direct water.
