Venetian Plaster — Lucido
Large private houses and rebuilds
Many houses in Cobham, Oxshott and Virginia Water are new or substantially rebuilt, with double-height entrance halls, wide staircases, cinema and wellness floors below ground and expansive open-plan living. Polished plaster gives these big spaces a hand-finished quality that paint cannot. A tinted Marmorino across an entrance hall and gallery reads as soft stone; a high-polish Lucido brings depth to a dining room, bar or study. On projects run by a main contractor we work to the programme, coordinate with other trades and agree samples early so design sign-off does not hold up the site.
Ceilings and vaulted spaces
Ceilings are where polished plaster becomes truly memorable, though they are demanding because every change in plane shows. Our reference project is in London, not Surrey: at Lancaster Gate in Bayswater, within a three-year heritage restoration, we burnished grassello di calce to vaulted ceilings and bay windows so finely that they reflect the windows opposite. Barn conversions, farmhouses and Arts & Crafts houses
Converted barns and farmhouses around the Surrey Hills combine oak frames, vaulted roofs and tile-hung or brick walls. Marmorino and hand-worked Spatulata finishes give a soft, natural texture between the timbers. Arts & Crafts houses favour handmade materials, and a satin Marmorino sits more comfortably with their joinery than a mirror gloss. As lime-based finishes, these are breathable and generally compatible with older solid walls, and our lime plasterers can repair the background first.
Pools, spas and bathrooms
Basement pools, spas and steam rooms are a feature of many larger Surrey homes. Tadelakt, the traditional waterproof lime plaster, suits showers, steam rooms and wet zones when correctly detailed, and microcement gives seamless floors and walls around pools. Waxed Venetian plaster or Marmorino suits the walls of changing rooms and bathrooms away from direct water. Because we also carry out tanking, we can advise on the waterproofing behind the finish, which matters as much as the surface itself.
External polished plaster
Loggias, courtyard walls, pool-house elevations and garden pavilions can all take external polished plaster, provided the system is a breathable, weather-resistant lime-based finish over a sound render background and the detailing at sills, copings and junctions is right. We carry out external rendering too, so we can take responsibility for the background and the finish together.
From survey to sealed finish
We survey the substrate and the light, produce samples for approval, then prepare, level and prime the walls before applying base coats and hand-burnished finishing coats, finished with wax or a seal.
